Celebrating Environment Day
International Environment Day was celebrated on 05, June 2018. People from the various slums gathered at Kargil Chowk in the morning at 9.00 am to beat the heat. There is an urgent need to work to save Mother Earth and to check the manner in which we are living, was the message that was passed around as we distributed handbills to generate awareness of how we are endangering ourselves
By cutting down trees in the name of development and widening of roads, we are destroying Mother Earth and in a way living selfishly without thinking of the generations to come. As the women and men marched through the streets with green bands on their forehead and a message to save the Earth, a few people stopped to read and listen.
On the whole as we moved through the streets, people are not bothered about what is happening all are in the rat race. Most of the ones who are destroying the Earth think that money can buy all.
Ata the end of the march, 50 mango saplings were distributed to the people who had some land where they could plant he saplings. In this summer season it would be a kind deed to drop the seeds of berries and fruits so that they will burst forth and bloom and take root giving shade and shelter to the tired and weary.
After serving the gathering with cool water, they took to the road to their homes.
