Celebrating International Human Rights Day
The gross violation of human rights around the globe, calls us to raise our voices against injustice meted out on a particular section of society. We are pained by the manner in which eviction is being carried out across the country. In the name of development, the axe of homelessness always falls on those who live on the periphery. Once evicted they are forced to live under the open sky without any alternative arrangements. So hard hearted are the officials that they cut off the electricity connection, destroy the toilets and disrupt the water connections, so that they will be forced to leave the place. But where will they go? They do not have any alternative for many of them have lived all their live-in the place from where they are evicted. As we lit candles and marched in procession, we were conscious of those languishing in jails as under trials and implicated in false cases.
This year in India due to a helicopter crash, we lost 13 men from the armed forces; it was a day to pay homage to these brave warriors who have served the country by safeguarding our boundaries. A great number of people joined in the march as passersby stopped to watch and to read.
