Chief Guest at St. Xavier’s College – Digha
Towards the close of 2021, the invitation to be the chief Guest for the memorial ceremony of Late Emeritus Archbishop Desmond Tutu, was a happy welcome. Archbishop Desmond was a man of many facets, a good human being who was passionate about Justice and Peace. Being invited to be the Chief Guest was both a privilege and an honor. As we assembled in the college hall, to check on technology, I was escorted by two young students of the first year batch. On a cold winter morning a cup of coffee was very welcome. As I entered the hall which was almost full, I said, I could use this opportunity to touch a few hearts. The Principal Fr. Nishant SJ was very welcoming. I addressed the audience and felt at least a few would have taken the message home to be inspired by stalwarts like – Desmond Tutu, Nelson Mandela and the Dalai Lama. I concluded you have a chance to make a choice, use it and continue to be inspired by Desmond Tutu’s life.
