Ensuring vendors work within the policy framework
The ‘Smart City’ chorus is being sung every day and many do not even know what it means but there’s an unending drive going on to capture land. The administration has begun a very inhuman operation and is leaving no stone unturned to fulfill their plan. Agreed that there is a need for development that roads need to be widened, traffic has to be under control but given the reality there is a big lacuna. There’s no policy in place as to how will the implementation of the ‘Smart City’ come about. Everyone is considered to be an encroacher, there’s no yardstick that asks the question what happens to the
PAP – Project Affected People. Before the implementation of the project has the administration conducted a survey of the people who would be affected by the project? Have they engaged with communities who would be affected? Have they proposed alternatives? Nothing of the kind.
There’s no human face to this. Bulldozers and hundreds of police force are deputed and more than removing encroachers there is loot and destruction of the poor people’s goods. They even fail to stop to listen what the poor are pleading for… have the rights been taken for granted. Do we want to create criminals???
