Expressing solidarity with communities under threat
The present trend in the country is the easy use of bulldozers to evict people, destroying their homes and livelihood. Though people are living in very distressing situations, yet it does not dawn on the administration, the difficulties that the communities are facing. What is important for these people is just that they want development at any cost, without any rehabilitation. It is the same story all over again. The people who live in the settlements are living in a very inhuman situation, along drains without any washrooms or clean drinking water. They are hounded after as if they are not human and have no right to live in the city.
These pictures will show the deplorable situation in which the community has been residing, yet they have no peace of mind, living in total insecurity. Now the railway wants to build a bridge for people from the other side of Patliputra station. There may be a need for a bridge but this does not mean that they can be displaced without any other alternative. It is a shame that when crores can be spent on a project why there is no consideration for those who live on the periphery in difficult situations. At times it appears that the poor, the city makers do not matter.
