Forced Eviction – distribution of Food
There seems to be a common trend running across the country and especially in Bihar. The government along with the administration has been hounding the communities that reside on the periphery. The community in question has been living there for near to three decades or more when the place was a jungle. After clearing the land they made it habitable and now they are being evicted. They are daily wage earners working on construction sites, as domestic help, petty shopkeepers, and rickshaw pullers vendors. They have lost both their homes and livelihood. Their earnings are not sufficient that they can rent a room, besides when the owners come to know that they are hutments they do not give them a room. In such circumstances where will they go? After all they are citizens of Bihar. The ruthless manner in which they homes were demolished is a real shame when we talk about development. True development should be of people. Even after four decades are living without basic amenities – no washrooms, no proper houses. Huts built of bamboo and grass or plastic sheets. On 21, June the bulldozers came and together with the community we opposed the eviction. Again on the 25, June they came unannounced and bulldozed into their huts, using abusive language and mercilessly destroying their belongings.
