Mashurganj victims
Perhaps many of our readers will not know of this area, quite a famous area in Patna city, where the wholesale market lies. Very near to this market below there is a canal which some 60 years ago was a river and people came by boat to main Patna. Today that river is just a narrow canal. The community of the Mushaars has been living there for years in pathetic conditions. Most of them have never known of basic amenities – toilets and fresh drinking water seem to be luxury for them. The recent floods posed a pathetic situation for them. They were drinking dirty water and it was very difficult to find some place to relieve them.
Our visit to them and listening to their pathetic situation, we were filled with sadness as no one thinks of them to give them some kind of respite. It was a moment of decision making to support them with some relief for they had lost their work due to the rain and food grains were not available.
