The price of development is always paid by the communities on the periphery. The widening of roads has brought the community o the road and they have lost their made shifts house. A very ancient community who was living there and used to come to Patna along the canal by boat says Sumitra devi, who is an elderly woman. Her grandson is educated completed his graduation and yet the only job he gets is cleaning the drain. Chandan speaks to us and says: what’s the use of getting educated that I still have to clean the drains. We are looking into the possibility of getting him something where he gets a satisfaction. But this is a reality that even after you get educated the stigma of caste still lies engraved into you. We hope to work for some kind of transformation for the community there. The city manager of PMC – Mr Prakash is very helpful and we hope we can get things moving.
