Meeting with the community at Shastri Nagar

The communities that live in Shastri Nagar have been residing in the given place for more than five decades. There are two communities one which are residing on the land belonging to the PWD department and the other to the PHED. The latter are mostly employed as fourth class employees of the government and though they have retired they get a good amount of pension. There is constant rivalry among them as the ones who get government benefit seem to be better off this becomes a bone of contention. We spoke to the women and made them aware of the need to be together to fight the bigger enemy. They should forget these personal benefits gather together to demand their rights. This is important because the government is trying to capture any land which they are bent on reclaiming. People when they came to these sites it was not habitable, but by filling up these lands the price of land is going up. Somehow the women were convinced but they need to be constantly reminded of their need for collective action.
