Networking to oppose demolition
After trying and knocking at many doors, we felt there needs to be a wider consultation and therefore after the visit of Medha Patkar, we met to plan the way forward. There has been a belief within the high circles that the water logging that took place and also the flood was due to the encroachment of the urban poor on the drains. To break this myth, we came together as citizens group who needed to make an intervention.
The first meeting was held where there were five people gathered. The numbers did not disappoint us as those of us who were present were serious about the issue. Two vital decisions were taken:
- A pamphlet to be printed about the truth of the water logging – failure of the administration.
- To plan for strategies to generate awareness and have a one day or one week strike of work.
