Night visit to the shelters for homeless
Working on the issue of homelessness, has exposed us to many harsh realities of life. Due to this we have been able to advocate and liaison two erect temporary shelters for the people who sleep in the open sky. It was an opportunity to give an exposure for the women members of the team, to get to know what some of the problems the women who have no one to call their own go through. The women who came to the shelter are the ones who beg during their day, as we tried to find out about their whereabouts, one thing became clear that they are happy to be begging. Though we organized to admit them in the government home for the elderly, they refused to go. On deeper reflection, we realize that perhaps they do not wish to remain in the confines of a home. They want to be free and do not want to be tied down. It is very interesting as we went deeper into the issue and began to realize their mindset. The elderly are always treated without respect. It reflects about gaps with the upbringing of children.
