Participation in the Right to Information – Public hearing
In the recent past there have been many deaths / murders of RTI activists. Many of these brave people have risked their lives for a cause. The Right to Information has been a powerful weapon to get information, a way to address corruption. However, this is not welcomed or accepted by those who have been engaged in corruption.
The Public hearing was organized to give an opportunity for the families of the deceased from different districts of Bihar. It was a very pathetic situation, as we heard the painful stories of families sharing their grief and loss and not getting any relief. Presiding over the hearing were distinguished guest – MP Aruna Roy retd. IAS officers, politicians.
Emphasis was laid on once again appealing to the legal system in the state that justice be done. A panel of lawyers were present and they took to the task very seriously. This is the silver lining in the cloud that has been looming over the families for the past many years.
