Reaching out to the Unreached
When nature shows its wrath be it whether flood, fire, cyclone, one does not know what will happen next. The three days incessant rain in Patna, painted a miserable picture before us. People lived in very inhuman conditions and did not have the basic necessities – drinking water, food and use of toilets.
After the water receded, we visited the communities to assess the situation and to find out from the community how they were getting on. There was no respite from the Government so we approached Misereor to enable us to reach out to the unreached. The generous support enabled us to reach out to some 550 families with food grains- rice dal, flour, plastic sheets for shelter, bucket, bed sheet, mosquito net, bathing and washing soap, torch. Being festival season a packet of Indian sweets was also included.
To one again see the smiles on the face of the communities were very encouraging. The hard work of my colleagues and full timers enabled us to work intensely. Beginning from going door to door in search of the real needy; conducting a survey, giving them slips, deciding on the day of distribution was no easy work. Procuring 550 items of the same cost at one go was a bit difficult due to the fact water had also got into some of the shops.
Yet with God’s blessings and our sincere efforts to reach out to the unreached, gave us the true meaning of Deepawali
