Support for a widowed lady
Saraswati Devi has been a very empowered woman from Malaai Pakkdi. She has not been hesitant to face bulldozers that came to destroy their huts. She has indauntable courage and is very aware of her rights. Her perception of things is clear: land belongs to God and so it’s everybody’s, do why does the government deny us a piece of land to have a roof over our head.
It’s against this background that Saraswati Devi who was widowed about five years ago, has two young daughters to be married. She has been struggling to get things for the marriage. We at Aashray Abhiyan decided to support her with dry rations, so that she could at least take care of the guests who attend her simple wedding. It always worries me how these communities who live on the periphery are able to make both ends meet. Our contribution is a drop in the ocean and we are grateful for the same.
