Visiting the shelter for Urban Homeless
As part of the appointment by the Urban Housing and Urban development department government of Bihar for the supreme court of India, Dorothy visited chhapra a district in Bihar to meet with the women who run the shelter. Chhapra is some 200 kms from Patna. Leaving Patna by vehicle provided by the government and visiting the women was another experience. Initially they were so frightened if they had things in order.
So, the first move was to break their fear and put them at ease and then to share some of their working patterns and how they mange the shelter. It is true women are moving ahead as four of them run the shelter 24 hours on all 7 days of the week. They shared their concerns and also their suggestions. It was really remarkable, thought he 2 ½ hour journey one way was tiring as the roads are not that good yet meeting the simple women and journeying with them was a privilege.
Thanks God for these opportunities and privileges to be with people on the periphery
