Visiting the temporary night shelters

Being appointed on the committee for shelter is both an honor and involves great responsibility. Taking this responsibility seriously, visiting the shelters, ensuring that some of the loop holes are taken care of becomes very important. The two shelters at Patna city and Gaighat have been centers which are housing the homeless who are in need. The Gaighat shelter is a permanent shelter and there has been quite a good improvement. Meeting the people who take refuge was something important. We noticed the elderly women present were also at the shelter the last year. As we interacted with them, we realized that the women were hurt and needed medical facilities. They were turned out of their homes by their children and took to the roads. But unfortunately when we tried to encourage them to avail of the government structures they were diffident. We will have to revisit them and find out why they are diffident.
