Advocating for housing for the urban

Housing for the urban poor has been a big issue for us and we have left no stone unturned to address this issue. So many Ministers and Principal Secretaries of the Urban Housing and Development department have changed, yet not a single person has tried to turn this to reality. It is with great hope in November 2020 that we joined hands with the Patna Municipal Corporation to conduct survey for the urban poor under the PMAY scheme. Unfortunately not the second stage of identifying or acquiring land has to take place and there is no move from the government to address this.

Our meeting with the Deputy CM – Tarkishore Prasad who is also holding the portfolio of urban housing and development was to know what has been the cabinet decision. He assured us that no slums will be demolished. Secondly he assured that houses for the urban poor will be built is situ. A discussion was held to find out why eviction of the poor is being carried out without alternative arrangements which is a grave violation of human rights.

We hope and pray that these assurances will be translated into reality with housing to come true for the urban poor.
