Celebrating 78 years of Independence day
Each year we look forward to celebrate Independence day along with our young women and construction workers. So, this year the flag was hoisted at all the 7 sewing centers, where the young women and children with great gusto prepare for this day.
The excitement begins a week before the actual day, as they prepare their songs, dance and speeches, decorating their centers as well. From preparing the pole and decorating it and then learning to tie the flag are some of the basic essentials they are being trained for.
On the day, it’s a National festival and the young people come dressed with color dresses. One of the specialties of Bihar is the famous Indian sweet jaleebi, which is something both the old and the young look forward to. You will find small stalls put up at different points crowded with people to purchase the jaleebi, hot from the pan.
As the flag is unfurled, and different people address the Gathering, it’s all ears to listen to the important message that is being delivered. This year the focus was how do we come alive the legacy of Gandhiji, the Father of the Nation: the message of truth and nonviolence, which is the ethos of India.
At the post of the construction workers, the ex MLC Sanjay Paswan addressed the gathering and emphasized that though we have attained freedom from the British, but we have not been able to wipe away poverty; we need to work towards freeing India from poverty. Now it’s our turn to teach our children the rich heritage we have received and pass it on to the generations to come. While we remember the sacrifice of our Freedom fighters, our jawans at our borders, our farmers who till the land, we must also remember the contribution of the workers of the informal sector who offer their services for the development of the country and city.
After the hoisting of the flag, everyone awaits eagerly for the jaleebi, without which there is no celebration.
