Celebrating ‘Constitution Day’
As the country is at the cross road with the gross violation of ‘human rights’, we felt that we need to take this opportunity to create awareness among our people. We had a good Gathering of our people from the dwelling units, construction workers and the young women from the sewing centers. We began by the lighting of the lamp becoming aware of the presence of God. All present stretched out their hands and we recited the Preamble of the Constitution. Further, the speakers brought to light the meaning of the Constitution and the architect of the constitution. The three main pillars of the constitution is –
‘Justice, Equality and Liberty’. However, today we do experience a grave violation of all these three aspects enshrined in the Constitution. As citizens of this great country, the participants were encouraged to purchase a copy of the constitution and read it, in the same way as we read the holy books of our religion. All the directions / laws and rules are enshrined in the constitution. There are 6 fundamental rights and we must become aware of our rights and when there is a violation of the same, we should be in a position to raise our voice.
Basic to our dignified life is – food, clothing, shelter, education and health. Today there is a gross violation of our rights; yet we are afraid as a nation to raise our voices due to the consequences. The Constitution is one of our weapons to ensure the social and diverse fabric of our country. It has become our moral responsibility that we as Indians make every effort to safeguard our constitution. If we believe in secularism then it is our moral responsibility to remember the sacrifices of those gone before us who fought for our freedom.
