Celebrating Martyrdom Day
For us as Indians, it is vital that we continue to keep alive in our memory the sacrifice of those who lay slain to give us Freedom from the British. The Father of our Nation who lead the Freedom Struggle from West Champaran, Bihar was a charismatic leader. As he moved to different parts of the country, people joined him in hundreds and thus the freedom struggle gained momentum. The onus to keep this legacy alive and to hand down historical facts accurately falls on all Indians. Today, it is sad that our young generation is not aware of the rich history. Most of our so called educated youth don’t even know our rich history. Most of the important historical events have been removed from the syllabus of the schools, thus filling the hearts of our young with hatred and enmity. It is vital that there is a erosion of human values; two very important values from the life of the Mahatma – Truth and non violence is something our world stands in need of. Our greatest homage to this great saint is to imbibe the values of Truth and non violence. We need to pass this torch to the generations to come and ensure the Father of the Nation is kept alive among us Indians.
