Dialogue on Constitution and Freedom
Ever since Independence Day, we as an organization have been having a number of discourses on the Rights which have been enshrined in our Indian Constitution. These discourses provided us with the space to have a wider discussion and dialogue and to engage with people from all walks of life.
So, the planned dialogue took place on the 23, September 2021 at Jamuna Ashram, AN Sinha Library Road. There was a good representation of members from 4 political parties, advocates, NGO’s, representatives of the slum community and Aashray Abhiyan Team. The focus of the discussion was the Fundamental Rights given by our Constitution. The Right to Equality, Right to Education and working towards a casteless society were paramount.
The participants were well informed and therefore a very healthy dialogue took place as examples were cited on the basis of equality. When 50% of the world’s population lives with discrimination we cannot talk of equality. Various areas related to women were also taken up; the need to be awakened and work for the equality of all without discrimination on the basis of caste, creed, gender were discussed at length
The Right to Education was thoroughly discussed, the comparison between the private and the government schools led to a long discussion. Some very concrete suggestions were put forth to bring about a change in the educational system. The discussion was lively and very positive as it was people at the grassroots level and were speaking from experience.
This has paved the way for a follow up on such topics to be continued at regular intervals, so that we remember our history and do not forget the contribution made by those gone ahead of us
