Distribution of plastic sheets
The communities living along the bank of the Ganges have a deplorable life, which is unfitting for any human being. They become victims of every weather conditions as they struggle to live a dignified life. It breaks one’s heart to see the manner in which they are hounded by the law enforcing agencies.
They have been living below the walking path on the river banks in a most unhygienic manner. The subhuman manner in which they live frightens me and makes me wonder where humanity is going. Judges need gates at the cost of the people being abandoned from their homes. This is one of the most vulnerable communities with whom we live, the maimed, the blind, the beggars who because of their status in life are unable to earn their livelihood. Yet who bothers? How people live is not anyone’s concern. It appears that only some have the right to the city; just because they belong to a particular status in society,
Giving them plastic sheets/curtains at least gives them a bit o relief from the rain and from the scorching sun. This little sheet of plastic gives them relief from harsh weather conditions and makes them the most vulnerable. As we hand over the plastic sheet their tired old faces have many stories to tell, if only we could read them and be touched by human pain and agony. Through all these painful stories they still are able to wear a smile on their face and teach us what it is to be human.
