Feeding the community at Malaai Pakkdi

After the demolition at Malaai Pakkdi, the community was left on the roadside; their huts and utensils were crushed badly under the bulldozer. It was very painful when we visited the community to hear children say: ‘we are hungry’. Their voices kept disturbing us and so we decided to make available food for the community. After getting support from our leaders, we swung into action. The team members decided to cook hot food and feed the community twice a day for four days. It was indeed very satisfying when the children were old on the first day that they should wash their hands. After that every time we went with food, they would tell us, we have washed our hands. The elders monitored the serving and told the children not to waste food to take only tht much which is needed. After they finished eating they took their plates and dumped them in a nearby pit. This type of education was heartwarming. The community still keep alive those soft skills and values which our society is in need of.
