Interacting with Dr. Shashi Tharoor
It was an open invitation by the Congress party to have an open discussion with the Honb’le Dr. Shashi Tharoor on the 24, May from 10.00 a. to 12.30.
The Christian community was given an open invitation to interact with Dr. Shashi Tharoor. Initially, he wanted to know if there were any attacks on the churches in Bihar and what is the situation as compared to UP. He keenly listened to the sharing by the Christian community.
I was invited to speak, I shared about the campaign we were on for the elections along with Meira Kumar mother of our contestant Anshul Abhijeet from the Congress party. People have decided as a community to vote for the congress, the past decade had been one of the worst in the history of our country. With all the efforts across the country , I expressed our concern and disappointment of the manner in which the ECI has been performing. The indifference towards form 17C of not giving the exact numbers of the voters has disappointed us. I do hope that you as the leader of the Opposition party will do something about addressing this, which is happening but needs to be sped up. Dr. Shashi responded that they have filed a case in the Supreme Court and they hope there will be a favorable and fair decision.
One of the participants raised the question of cancellation of FCRA and the shrinking space of Civil society. To this Dr. Shashi Tharoor responded though we have not put it in the manifesto, we will pull back all the draconian laws like UAPA and also roll back the FCRA conditions.
He further referred to how the price of raw oil is going down across the Globe and in India its soaring high because of the tax by government. He also spoke about how the Congress party is committed to the rights of the people as enshrined in the constitution of India and he illustrated the various schemes that came into force during the Congress regime.
The people were at ease with the questions raised and the manner in which he dealt with the same.
