International Worker’s Day
International Worker’s Day is a meaningful day for our people especially those who work on construction sites, rickshaw pullers, domestic workers. This year we chose to celebrate at one of the points where the construction workers gather together. It is a very vulnerable place because it is near the railway line, where the workers gather from different towns. They come by the train and get down at the railway line putting their lives into a huge danger. Our focus was an opportunity for them to know about the different schemes which they can avail of from the government of Bihar. The information of the necessary documents which will give facilitate their upward economic movement.
The other issue was about the 4 labor codes which the government is proposing and which is a real threat to their social security. This is something our people need to become aware of how the government is trying to put heavier burdens on their shoulders by demanding extra hours of work. There was a good intervention by a number of them as they placed their thoughts before the gathering. Though we were in the open air, the coolness of the day was so beneficial that they sat in patience listening attentively. After offering them the local drink of ‘Sattu” which was refreshing for ahem.
