Is Gandhi relevant today? – a dialogue
The month of October always reminds us of the Freedom we have gained from the English. The 02, October is the birth anniversary of Gandhi – the Father of our nation. Our experiences over the years are gradually, our younger generation is not familiar with Gandhi; his values have been lost and even some historical facts are being distorted. As an organization we felt we need to revive these basic human values which are on the verge of dying. The dialogue focused around – the saint of nonviolence, truth and integrity.
It was very evident from the dialogue that Gandhi and his principles are very much needed today. In the rat race of being modern we have thrown Gandhi out and his values. He leads by doing; by being the model; ‘My experiments with Truth” reveal his interior life – his morality and ethics, which have been lost in today’s world. There is a dire need to imbibe these values which are seen in isolation and which are at times even made a mockery of.
As ‘history’ is being tampered today, it becomes our moral responsibility to bring back to the front stage the principles of
Truth – nonviolence – brotherhood and equality. His special love for the integration of the nation at all costs earned him his assassination.
In conclusion we took an oath to follow the path of Gandhi – pledging to be non-violent in our thoughts, words and deeds. To be truthful at all costs; to work for the integration of the nation…
