Kelley celebrates her birthday
Values are not taught, they are caught so the saying goes…this is so true when Kelley’s mother Sharon called me up some days ago and said her daughter who is studying in Class XI in Notre Dame school would like to share her joy of her birthday with the children in our learning centers. Sharon is the Director of a chain of schools of St.Karen who have been engaged in imparting education to the children in Patna.
On the 04, March, around 10.00 am the children at TV Tower and Gaighat learning center gathered together as every morning. They were surprised when Kelley came along with her mother to the learning center, she was surprised when the little children said, we want to sing happy birthday to Didi. They stood up with great enthusiasm and sang with Joy and happiness; they were not satisfied with the birthday song. The little ones began to dance to the music, to no other than a break dance. They entered fully into the rhythm and fascinated everyone present.
That wasn’t enough, they recited tables, poems, sang songs. After these performances, they were each presented with an art kit, which they hugged tightly, as if anyone would grab it away from them. They were just overwhelmed with the gift when they were each give a good food packet which they perhaps had never had. The Joy on their face, the thrill of carrying these two packets along with them was something to take in; as some of the little ones were unable to manage the big packets.
We, at Aashray Abhiyan were so delighted and the children went away home with a smile on their faces and joy in their heart. We thank God for Sharon who has instilled these values in her young budding daughter, who thought it worth it to celebrate her birthday among those less privileged.
