Meeting of committee constituted by the Supreme Court of India

A State Level SUH Monitoring Committee has been constituted under the Chairmanship of Shri Girish Shankar, IAS (Retd.) to review the progress of Shelter for Urban Homeless (SUH) under DAY – NULM. The committee comprises of Chaitanya Prasad, Principal Secretary, Urban Development & Housing Department, Govt. Bihar, Ms Dorothy Fernandes and Mr. Tarique Quershi.

The 4th State level meeting was held on12th October 2018. The committee reviewed the shelters that are functional in some of the cities and gave suggestions for the improvement of the services at the shelter. It was also pointed out that in the wake of the anti-encroachment drive being undertaken in Patna, homelessness is only increasing without appropriate alternatives.

Therefore, the concept of “homelessness’ “shelters” also need to be discussed and we need to address the permanent homelessness being created
