Meeting with Vendors at Anta Ghat

The construction of vending zone at Anta Ghat has been one of the biggest failures in the area of construction. In one of the oldest vegetable wholesale markets of Patna where there are near to 300 vendors, the administration built a structure that could accommodate only 148 vendors, that also in a space of 4 x5 ft. This is insufficient space to keep your goods, weighing machines and sit there for long hours. Unfortunately the homework was not fully done; no data of the vendors but forcefully using police power to forcefully make the vendors sit inside and sell their goods. When half of the vendors are outside, it is obvious no one will come inside to purchase vegetables. The finish is poorly done and the roof is leaking. There is only one gate to enter the vending zone. Keeping all these issues we had a meeting with the vendors who were vehement about not going inside to sell their goods. The red tapism has to change and officials must realize that the vendors are also human beings and therefore they need the same dignity and respect. A very interactive meeting took place and the vendors tried to cool down and listen to what we as an organization were trying to communicate to them. We have taken up the issue with the concerned officials and hopefully there will be a positive out come.
