Orientation to the young women of Mukdumpur and Gaighat
On the 25th September, we had the young women come from Mukdumpur and Gaighat for the orientation. The restriction of not having more than a gathering of 50 was the purpose why we have smaller gatherings. There is also an advantage, as we can interact at a personal level. As we began to invite the young women to open their mouths, they were quite hesitant. Gradually when they were questioned about the discrimination at home, they had lots to share. It is shocking that even today, in Urban Patna, there is discrimination and preference for boys is very clearly seen. The young girls expressed how they feel and their fear to open their mouths. By drawing them to reflect they became aware that they would start by expressing their feelings at home with their mothers. This is the first step to empowerment.
