Providing a glimpse of our work
When we work with and among those who are not accepted by society it gives us great sense of Joy when we find people interested in what we are doing. It is a real impetus to the entire team and such a support also enhances the quality of our work.
David Boston was our guest, being his first time to Patna, he was fully immersed in the work we are engaged in. The conversation at the sewing centers with the young women was interactive, informative interesting as they engaged with each other. They were also proud to display the items they had stitched; one woman shared how her daughter encouraged her to come to the center and get skilled, she had hidden this from her husband and now she wanted to get a photograph taken to show it to him. These amazing stories inspire the other women and young girls.
As we moved into the other points among the Leprosy patients, settlements, vendors there was a smile and a warm welcome as they shared their story, their struggle. The most deprived among them were the ones at Adaltghat and Tees Lal Verma Road where the community is living under very challenging circumstances.
As we continue to engage with these very pertinent issues of our people, we grapple with trying to find an alternative for those who are in very vulnerable situations. Every time we establish a relationship with a bureaucrat, he becomes sensitive to our issue, in a few months he is changed. We still struggle to sensitize them to the deplorable manner in which the people are forced to live.
At times the hopelessness of not getting an amicable response makes us wonder in which world we live and how can we respond to the struggles of people? Why is that those who are in power are not filled with compassion to the plight of the suffering humanity. In spite of all this we move ahead believing that one day there will be light of hope.
