Rations for fire victims
On the 03, May after 12 noon, a fire broke out at the Baans Ghat settlement when all the residents were out at work. A fire destroyed everything and all that was left was the clothes that they were in. In this scorching sun it was a pitiful sight to witness the people who sat shocked.
Everything went up in ashes, leaving them unable to even think what they could do. They lost all the means to start life again, the emergency department responded to give each family 12000/-, the Red Cross came forward with utensils and mosquito nets. FSI along with us gave rations – 10 kgs atta, 10 kgs rice, dal, cooking oil, sattu, salt , jiggery, channa.
As we began to investigate, we found that this is a plan by the government to evict the people. This we came to know when we called up the ward councilor and asked that a water tanker be sent for them. We were told that water cannot be sent as they have been given the notice to evict the place. Such a sad state of affairs, as we see and know.
