Sharing Nano’s life with representatives of our settlements
The calling of our CG 2018 invited us:
“What if we loved one another;
What if we spent ourselves for the poor.”
26, April is always a day once again to share the life of venerable Nano Nagle who continues to live today in our world through the life and activities of the Presentation Sisters across the Globe. The weather conditions, the model code of conduct have been obstacles to take this out in the open. We invited a few representatives from our settlements and we began by sharing the story of Nano. The turning points in the life of Nano, her coming home in the chariot in the wee hours of the morning and she peeped out and saw a group of peasants huddled together for the church door to be opened. The second incident of Anne selling her silk material, turning it into medicines and food for the poor, both these incidents touched our people.
I was amazed to listen to the wisdom of our simple people and how they drew a comparison between Gautam Buddha and Nano. They went on to say that these were simple people who did not look for fame or prestige but today even after hundreds of years they are still remembered among the people in the hearts of humanity. Sometimes we fail to recognize the great people in our midst, citing the examples of Mahatma Gandhi, they said Gandhi is known, loved an revered far and wide throughout the Globe. It is ad that our country people do not revere him and hold him as a person of great distinctive values and discipline.
We concluded the sharing over some snacks and sharing on the situation in the country; the General elections; the need of the people to rise above all narrow domestic walls; fight for the safeguarding of the constitution, the democratic values enshrined in our Indian Constitution.
