TB identification camp at Navkottia
The campaign of identifying TB patients in the slums goes on a quite positive mode. There’s a taboo in some places and people are not coming out openly. We have tried to encourage people to come forward and avail of this scheme as we are the liazoning agency we convince the community that they will get free medicines. In addition to this they will also get an allowance of Rs. 500/- per month for food supplies.
There is a difficulty as these “Service Providers”, rarely care for their health, they go to a pharmaceutical shop and get medicines for cough without proper diagnosis. It’s the beginning of the campaign and we have to invest quite a bit in convincing people of getting a thorough check up. So far in the four slums we have identified some patients but since they are unable to give the morninsg sputum accurately, we will have to pursue this as well. We are liazoning with the government to see how we can address this.
