The community at Adaltghat struggling to find a safe place
The community at adalghat has seen many generations live adjacent to the Bankipore post office, on the Ashok Rajpath road. Near to a 100 years of living in somewhat difficult situation, they were rudely pushed away from that haven of their home. Being powerless, maimed, blind, begging for their living, they had no purchasing power. On many an occasion, we stood up to the bulldozer and the official who came to evict them.
Unfortunately, when they came the last time, it was a court order from the lower court, there was no recourse. Later we came to know that the Judge wanted a third gate at the cost of leaving the community homeless, so much for sensitivity to the plight of the poor.
They found refuge on the banks of the river Ganges. But with the onset of the monsoons, their place has been flooded and they have come up on the walking path trying to find some relief from the rain.
We stand in solidarity with them as we try to continue to speak and put forth their case forward. Leaving no stone unturned so that their cause can reach the appropriate forum.
