When the bureaucrats come down to the people it gives them a new way of looking at them, that hey care. This is exactly what happened, when the City Manager of Bankipore zone accompanied us to Adalatghat. The community gathered together and shared their problems, wanting to know how it will be resolved. Moving around it is pathetic to see how people live. Their struggle for dignity and a decent living does not go a long way. It’s momentarily and yet they have the greatest respect when you visit them. They bless you and move ahead. Living along the roadside there is every possibility that they will be asked to leave the place and so they live in fear. Yet we hope that things can change if there’s a will; and the willingness is something that people of late have been experiencing.
