Visiting Samimaji, a powerful leader
As we move among our people, we are filled with a deep sense of concern for some of the elderly who in their younger days were great leaders. These women who worked on construction sites and have contributed to lead with great cost on their self. Samimaji, a brave strong woman who can clearly be identified with a cleft lip.
Having participated in many protests and had been responsible to empower her community, now lies with a stroke, her right side paralyzed. Even in this state she tries to make sure that she gives us cup of tea. Her generosity knows no bounds, with no roof over her head, she has been living for decades under the open sky, though her fight for housing has not seen the light of day, but we cannot forget her contribution in this struggle for housing.
She now lies in all probability on her last journey. As we visited her the heavens opened and the grandson graciously came running to lift her up and take her inside the hut to give her some relief. This has been one of the ways to say thank you to her as we do not know how long more will she be with us.
